In Due Time

In the hustle and bustle of life, we often feel the pressure to control our own destiny—to “pick ourselves up by our bootstraps,” as the saying goes. Yet, in Hebrews 4:10-11, God invites us to do something profoundly countercultural: strive to enter His rest.

We might ask, “How can I rest when there’s so much to do?” I’ll admit, I’ve asked that question myself. It’s a challenge we frequently see at the Samaritan Inn. We teach families to be good stewards and faithful workers, while also encouraging them to find true rest in Jesus.

One area where this tension often arises is the need for a car. A vehicle can be a life-changing milestone, opening doors to better job opportunities and stable housing. Recently, one of our residents, Jess, faced this very struggle. She had been working diligently, taking all the right steps to move her life forward, while remaining committed to staying in God’s will. But the desire for a car began to weigh heavily on her heart.

Then, Jess walked into my office and said something remarkable: “I’ve given it to God. I’m just going to wait on Him.”

1 Peter 5:5-6 reminds us, "God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble. Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that He may lift you up in due time.”

You can imagine my joy when I got to tell Jess that God had provided her with a car—through the generosity of a donor. She had submitted to wise counsel and surrendered her need to the Lord, and in due time, He lifted her up.
