“Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you” (Luke 6:38).
When I came into work the other day I saw an envelope on my desk with no return name— just an address. When I opened it, I found a letter and a generous donation for the upcoming Men’s Retreat.
I remembered getting a message about a week ago. It was from an Android PFloyd whose sister Diana is a member of the church I pastor. Android said he wanted to donate to the Lake Yale Men’s Retreat in memory of his brother and would let me know more in a letter. And here it was.
In the letter Android told me that he had seen my Facebook Post asking for sponsorship for the retreat and recognized the name Lake Yale. Their brother John Pomicter was attending AA meetings with his girlfriend for her addiction. There John realized he had an addiction himself and continued working the program even after his girlfriend left.
John met a gentleman who became a sponsor and mentor, who one day invited him to Lake Yale for a men’s retreat. There around a campfire John was moved by how God had changed these men’s lives and John was led to the Lord for salvation.
Android was shocked next time he was able to see his brother John. John was sharing about God and how if we turn to Christ he will save us. Android was shocked to hear John talking about God since John had never believed in Him before... and now he was on fire for Him.
John shared with his brother how much of an influence that night at the campfire of Lake Yale was in his salvation. John passed away a short time after that, but Android and his sister know that John is now forever present with the Lord.
Android felt led to donate to the Men’s Retreat as a gift in his brother’s name to help other men in need of healing. That sponsor probably had no idea that a simple invite to a retreat would have such eternal benefits and my prayer is that Android knows the eternal benefits that will come from his donation in John’s name.
