The Narrow Path

Matthew 7:13-14 “Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.”

Over the last few months, here at the Samaritan Inn, we have been blessed to witness several professions of faith in Jesus Christ as Lord. However, Jesus never said to make believers…in Matthew 28: 19-20 he said, “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

So, the real blessing comes from witnessing a true conversion, bearing the fruit of true repentance. Families come to stay in our yearlong family program from many different backgrounds, but there is usually one common denominator. A lacking in a meaningful relationship with God. Without God to turn to, they only have the world or self to turn to for answers and security.

When these families start to apply biblical principles to their lives, it is a joy to see the goodness of God pour out on them. We certainly don’t take it easy on these families, and often the most loving word we can offer is “no”. Yet the goodness of God seems to be contagious, as even through adversity a visibly changed life creates hope in another.

As one resident finds their way onto the narrow path, it seems to make it easier for the others to follow. Slowly, yet intentionally putting off the ways of this world and their “old self” they begin operating out of the new creation.

It is a stark reminder that faith itself is something to be shared with others. Jesus washed the feet of his disciples, and your love and support for our families helps us to do the same. Share your faith today; help someone find the narrow path.
