No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God abides in us and His love is perfected in us. 1 John 4:12
For the past four years, the teens at our Children’s Shelter have been going with me to Pensacola Christian College for Teen Extreme Camp for a week in the summer. Most of our youth here have been at the shelter for multiple years and as summer begins to approach the excitement begins to build for our camp experience. This year was going to be our first year not going to Teen Extreme. I used to serve as youth pastor at a sister church and that is who used to sponsor them to go to camp each year. Moving back to my home church here at First Baptist Church of Leesburg has been a most wonderful transition, but it brought forth changes. One of the changes is the Bible camp the youth groups go to. Even though the Bible camp offered to our youth now is one of the greatest camps around, Teen Extreme Camp was familiar to them in these most unfamiliar of times they have been facing. So, what was one to do? We prayed about it. A few weeks ago, my best friend who serves at First Baptist Church of Tavares invited our youth to attend Teen Extreme Camp as guests of their church. Even though we don’t attend their church, the church body came together in love to support our children. The church sponsored a car wash a couple of weekends ago to raise money not only for their youth but to raise money for our teens’ camp fees. All the youth worked together from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. – washing cars, along with dirtying themselves, and raising over $2,500! What a blessing it was to see churches coming together for the sole purpose of sending our youth to Bible camp to feed their spiritual needs. What better view of the perfect love abiding in us! But we are not done yet. We are still in need of raising funds for all of our youth to go to camp, and to be able to afford to do some of the activities offered. This is where you come in. Please be a part of the perfected love by loving one another and supporting the spiritual journey of these youth. If you would like to make a financial contribution to help our youth go to camp, please either email me at Jamie.firstname.lastname@example.org or call me at 352-787-2448. Even if you are unable to support them financially, please pray for them as they come together as one to spend a week strengthening their spiritual walk.
